By the way, I left GDAL out of the Ubuntu 8.10 installation notes on
purpose.  The install from source is kind of time consuming for one
thing.  My rationalization for leaving it out is that anyone who is an
advanced enough user to actually need GDAL will be able to figure out
how to install it.
