Hmm, I just did a new CVS install in Mepis 8.5, and I am able to turn
down the map instensity with no issues.  Are you referring to the
online tigermaps or Tiger 200x shapefiles?  I don't have any set up
yet in my new installation, so I was working with the online
tigermaps.
