I don't believe so.  The system assumes that you can't talk to them
if you can't hear them.

Give it a shot though, I may be remembering the different scenarios
incorrectly.  It's been a while since I played with/thought about
this sort of thing.  Generally it just works but of course there are
always edge-cases.
