Check out APRS Objects and APRS Items, as Jason mentioned a few
messsages back.  APRS is designed to handle the sorts of things
you're doing, posting positions of things on the map that don't have
trackers on them.  Might save you a ton of work just to use an APRS
program to do what you're after instead of coding something up from
scratch.
