Looks like you either have Automaps turned on (Map menu) or you have
multiple raster maps selected in Map Chooser.  For raster maps, try
selecting one at a time until you get familiar with how things work.

If you have a bunch of maps that tile together side-by-side you can
select all of those or the directory they reside in.  If you have
ones that work at different zoom levels you can mess with the Map
Chooser->Properties button and assign them to show up within
different zoom ranges so they don't try to all load at once.

Vector maps are a bit easier 'cuz you can see through one to the
next and the next.  I often will have a raster image as the bottom
layer with multiple vector maps on top of it.
