Each one brings in a raster map.  If you choose 2 or more you're
loading raster maps on top of raster maps, a useless proposition.

Try starting Xastir from an xterm so that you can see any error
messages that might appear in the Xterm.  In particular look for a
map timeout there after you select ONE of the OSM maps and it fails.
I'd suggest the OSM_mapnik.geo as that's what I use and the server
seems to generate the mapnik version faster than the others.

If you're getting a timeout message in the Xterm, try changing the
timeout a bit:

     Map->Configure->Timing->Internet Map Timeout

I have mine at home set to 60 seconds, I think it might be set to
120 at work.  Remember that you're bringing in the entire raster
image from a remote server.
