[Xastir] Ububtu 10.04 Tigermaps issues

I followed the xastir FAQ for Ubuntu 10.04 to the letter, it was great
instructions, and I still can't get online maps working. The error I
get is:
"Magick: Improper image header (/home/john/.xastir/map_cache/somenumber.gif)

Please xastir gurus.. what the heck am I doing wrong? Any help would
be greatly appreciated!
