I do this throwing of objects from an external program into Xastir's UDP
server port routinely, and it does work as Curt describes.  

Make sure Xastir and your injected objects are both using exactly the
same callsign and SSID, and Xastir should adopt the object.  It should
show up in the "Own Objects&Items" list, and Xastir *will* retransmit them
according to its decaying algorithm.

If it's not doing so for you, there could be some mismatch between the
callsign/ssid, OR perhaps you're not giving the right callpass?
