[Xastir] KML to Xastir overlay.

Hello all....

I'm getting ready for a trip and I made a kml of my route and want to
overlay it over my maps. What is the best method to use to convert the kml
file and what format is the best for Xastir to use?

In the past I've made shape files running them through gpsbablel taking them
to gpx. Then gpsman to shapefile.

Any suggestions would be helpful.....  Thanks....
