On the off-chance you'd be interested, I have a PHP script I wrote a while
ago that given the corner coordinates and zoom range, downloads OSM tile
sets to yr hard drive, building the standard directory structure.  I've
written a one-second sleep between each tile/file to avoid hammering the OSM
site.

It's written intended for use on a web server with PHP.  Let me know if
interested.
