[Xastir] CVS LOAD

Many thanks to Tom Russo for passing out the information about the config file hanging up the cvs build of XASTIR. I now have a new and up to date build of XASTIR. I am running Ubuntu 10-10. 

Now, can anyone help this Xastir user with instructions to load and operate Open Street Maps (or a similar detailed mapping system)? I have found no useful instructions to load detailed maps into my XASTIR program. I have looked through the F.A.Q.s and the other text that was supplied with XASTIR, and, I have not found any useful information that would help me. 
All of the Mapping installation text seems to be out of date. Enabling Auto Maps just hangs up XASTIR - "loading tile 1 of 20" is displayed at the bottom left of the XASTIR window.
