As someone who maintains the APRS for my area, please consider NOT digipeating unless you absolutely need to or have filtering on your digi.

Xastir doesn't digipeat.
I too am considering running both on an arm-based machine so I can
display the received activity on a map.
I would want Xastir to read from the AX25 stack but not send out any
packets, and read the APRSIS data and not send any extra.
Two SSIDs for the one computer / radio isn't on my desired feature list.
