First of all, thanks to all who replied wil lots of helpful information. .
While it would have been nice to start out using the latest version, for now I'm forced to using 2.0.0 since that's the version 'apt-get' installs. I'm slowly exploring Linux and one day I'll be able to compile my own.
I tried to get AX25 running but as soon as I ran "sudo kissattach /dev/ttyAMA0 1 10.1.1.1" I would loose my wireless connection to the Raspberry Pi. Since I'm am using Putty to make an SSH connection I loose the connection. I had this same problem on another Raspberry Pi when I started APRX and had to switch to a wired connection. The light goes out on the EDIMAX usb adapter and requires rebooting. I have seven Raspberry Pi's with four of them using the same wireless adapter and the only thing that causes a problem is APRX and AX25. Maybe a driver problem with the wireless interface I'm using.
As far as digipeating goes, I have APRX set to 'Direct Only' which is as close to being a 'Fill-in" as APRX gets. Even though I'm in a very rural area the RF traffic gets bad here at times. If I could get thei owner of one particular digi to NOT do so much APRS-IS to RF retransmitting everyting would work so much better here. He has ignored all emails and letters I've sent. Don't know what else to do.
I maybe one of the few that actually listens to the APRS frequency. It's amazing that some of these stations are able to be decoded. I've gotten pretty good at DFing stuck transmitters over the years.
Thanks again for all the help.
