serial card to serial cable to PK-88 (or PK-232 TNC). I am using /dev/ttyS0
in the setup and I have also tried /dev/ttyS1.
dmsg | grep shows both serial ports ttyS0 and ttyS1. at I/O 0x3f8 irq=4 is a
16550A  anf I/O 0x2f8 irq=3.

Possibly a compatibility problem with the serial card?

Thanks again.

What device string are you typing into Xastir? "/dev/ttyS0" or "/dev/USB0"
perhaps?

What hardware port are you actually using to connect to the TNC? A true
RS-232 serial port, or a USB->Serial cable?

That will get the discussion started. Once we figure out the above, we next
need to look at ownership/permissions for the port you're using.
