There's your problem.

Xastir 2.0.4 did not work with any version of Berkeley DB after 4.x.

It was fixed on 1/18/2013 to work with 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3.  

2.0.4 was released on 12/04/2012.

There has not been a formal release of Xastir since then.  The fixes are 
available only in CVS.

I recommend you just go ahead and do a checkout of the CVS code and build that.
You'll probably find that your map cache woes will go away.

You're better off with CVS code anyway, you can get fixes much faster.

Instructions for getting started with CVS are in the README.CVS file that 
should already exist in your 2.0.4 source directory.  Once you are set up to
do it, it's no more difficult than downloading the stable tarballs was.
