[Xastir] Offline OSM Map Data?

Another piece of the puzzle would be the possibility of downloading map data *before* going on a trip so you can have the maps cached.  I guess I can just surf around on the map but that takes a lot of time where a script would likely do better.  If no one is working on this I can try to figure out how to make this work and provide some code around making it happen (likely a script).
