[Xastir] Xastir with Kantronics KAM not transmitting

Xastir has had problems with the KAM in the past. We had a long thread about
it back in July-September 2012, and found that it was common for the KAM to
fail to go into "converse" mode when Xastir told it to, unless Xastir waited
for a little while after sending the "K" command. Times required to get
it to work varied between users from 50ms to much longer.
The original fix for this was to add a constant delay for *ALL* serial TNCs,
supposedly so small that nobody would notice. But that didn't work out
so well as 50ms was too short for some folks and what actually worked was too
long to be acceptable to users of other TNCs without the problem. Now there's
a check-box on the interface page that says "Add Delay" --- which should be
checked for a KAM and defaults to unchecked.
If this button is not checked for your KAM interface, this is very likely your
issue.
There is no GUI interface to change the delay length, because it is so rare
that this comes up that it wasn't worth coding up. If the delay is not
long enough, or is too long, you can edit the xastir.cnf file "TNCEXTRADELAY"
line corresponding to the interface that needs it. The number there is in
microseconds. The default is now 1000000 microseconds, which is certainly
long enough to get the KAM into conv mode, but can be serious overkill. You
can tune it down until it stops working.
There are notes in ChangeLog from 2012-09-14 through 2012-10-22 that mention
this hack, and in the "What's New in Xastir 2.0.1" notes in the Help menu
(though why anyone would look there is beyond me). It is, unfortunately,
NOT documented in the in-program help on TNC port options, but is documented
on the wiki: http://xastir.org/index.php/XASTIR_Manual#KAM_TNC .
