Hi Curt,
Herb bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Tablet and we are meeting today to see if
I can get the OSM maps on it for APRSDroid. I also bought this Tablet but
am returning it to Costco as they advertized it had HDMI capability which it
does not; false ad
What I want to tell you about is this Tablet has the GPS + Glonass. I
really like the battery life on the tablet; 10 hours. You might want to
look it over as this would open a variety of maps that can be loaded. Herb
as some special map program he specially bought this unit for so you might
touch base with him as he is a mapping guy.
Just thought I would throw out this bread crumb in case it might be of help.
Good luck on getting what you want in the end.

Subject: [Xastir] Who's current on Garmin handheld GPS models?
A bit off topic I guess, 'cuz this isn't for APRS use.
I'm getting ready to buy a mapping GPS. I've dabbled in geo-caching, but
hunting / hiking / SAR are the main uses.
I prefer Garmin, and have (I think) narrowed it down to the GPSmap 64 and
Oregon series. I want the best sensitivity under tree cover, and GPS +
Glonass.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the Gpsmap 64st.
The 1:100k built-in topo maps are not super-useful, but might be handy when
I travel and don't have more detailed maps. I figure I'll buy the Garmin
Topo West maps (1:24k) and use those for my main maps around here.
Halfway-decent street maps would be a plus for traveling.
Anything I need to know about using OpenStreetMaps with any of their newer
models, should I later choose to load my own maps instead of paying Garmin
for updates? I saw one comment on the 'net about the 64st not being able to
load unlocked maps, but I'm not enough of a Garmin nerd to know what that
means. Hopefully it doesn't prevent loading OSM maps or others.
Any help appreciated!
