[Xastir] Pi 3 as tile server?

I am interested in the same thing. It doesn't need to render the tiles, just server them. I also want to be able to access from the internet side.
>From what I can tell, there are several steps to accomplish this. The first step would be to 'harden' the Pi against the non-stop attach by potential hackers but still allow me access. Something like FreeDNS is necessary I think. And of course there is more.
I pick at this project on and off but haven't achieve the first step. So yes I am interested!

I've played with the Pi 3 a bit, and it does not seem totally useless.
