If that wasn't from a previous run, perhaps more than one instance of Xastir is trying to start up?

Those are normal if Festival daemon isn't running.

I seem to recall that those messages have to do with trying to run Xastir from the src directory and not doing the "make install" first and running Xastir from /usr/local/bin/xastir

May again be caused from running Xastir from the src directory.
