[Xastir] My question related to MAPS_AUTO_MAPS in xastir.cnf

Actually a better way of describing it is that it works quite well,
but is very simplistic. You have to be a bit of a map expert to know
how to use it properly. For most people it's not useful and only
causes problems. Maybe 1 or 2% of users do use it and don't want the
feature to disappear so we haven't removed it (yet). I'd entertain the
idea of removing it or making it more difficult to select. Maybe
having it default to "OFF" on every startup would be a reasonable
compromise.

If you have it on and don't know how to use it, turn it off now. More
than likely it's causing long map-load times as Xastir looks through
every one of your possible maps and loads every one that fits your
current map screen one-by-one, stacking each one on top of the last.
Works great for all vector maps or if the first map loaded is raster,
otherwise it is one big mess.
