Perform a google search on these two words:  "gdal ogr" and you'll
find the gdal library.  GDAL gives us more raster formats for maps.
OGR gives us several more vector formats.  Like I mentioned, the
integration is by no means complete yet, but you can play with the
OGR stuff a bit now to see what it does.
