Yea, I remember a bit about that.  If you talk to a station that
doesn't have reply-ack, you'll still communicate ok.  The QSO just
won't be as smooth/fast as it will be between two stations that both
implement it.

You need the reply-ack spec, the APRS spec, and Bob's APRS Errata
page, plus maybe a bit here and there that's not documented all that
well except in people's code, to understand APRS.

As far as I know there's been no move to update the spec.  :-(
