[Xastir-dev] New objects/items not showing up until restart

Nope.

I had an instance of Xastir running from a CVS copy that hadn't been updated
since 18 December, and I could create and delete objects from the Predefined
menu and have them show up (or be deleted) immediately.  I then CVS updated
and saw no change in behavior.

I haven't followed your changes related to the SQL databases.  There are some
debug options that might help you see whether your objects really are in
the linked lists, mostly related to expiration.  Try building with 
"-DEXPIRE_DEBUG" in your CPPFLAGS and you might see useful output that dumps 
the lists.
