In a nutshell
Mandrake 9.0
The problem only showed up when I downloaded new source tree on new operating
system and AFTER compiled and running as plain vanilla version. No support
libraries.
then:
got, compiled ax25: reconfigured and compiled xastir
ax25 worked fine.
got rpm of imagick and devel stuff as required, installed it, reconfigured and
compiled xastir
imagick and ax25 nowork
rpm -e imagemagic and the devel stuff
ax25 worked
rpm -Uvh imagick plus devel stuff
imagick and ax25 nowork again...configure finds magick-config but complains it
cannot find the libs,,,,i checked and they are there in the proper place and
path
rename magic-config to magick-config-old and set up xasir again
ax25 worked , imagemagick nowork.
rename magick-config-old back to orginal name set up xastir again
ax25 and imagick nowork
deleted everything related to imagick
set imagick by sources and set up xastir again
ax25 and imagick nowork again
deleted everything of imagick again, using the correct methods, make
uninstall, rpm -e. ,,,etc.
I still had not touched the ax25 libs etc, at all , like I was doing with
imagick
At several points up to this ,,, I had seen configure complain about not
seeing ImageMagic lib,,, but they where there in plain sight in the path and
in the proper dir.
At this point I deleted, uninstalled imagemagick whichever way was appropiate
for the programs and libs installed
I left ax25 stuff alone
downloaded a src rpm of imagemagick for rehat
rebuilt the rpm and installed it
display worked
deleted the entire dir of cvs stuff I was using which I had updated just a few
hours before
fetdhed the cvs source from scratch
did the whole bit to build xastir
everything worked..
This is probably more than you want or needed to know, but I find it
interesting that installing imagemagick before downloading a totally fresh
source tree for xastir, did the trick... not just a cvs update but totally
new...
If anybody wants a guina pig to trace this down further, let me know, be glad
to wipe it all out and try for repeatabily on failures as well as successfull
installs..It's up to the programmers...I do not know the overall stratigy in
development so work arounds like this may be okay for awhile..
