Something should probably be put into the FAQ about this: "What to
do if all your maps disappear!".

The migrate script must be run as root. It actually moves the whole
/usr/local/xastir heirarchy to /usr/local/share/xastir.

The fixcfg script must be run as a normal user (once as each user
that normally runs Xastir), after Xastir has been killed. It patches
up your ~/.xastir/config/xastir.cnf file so that it has the correct
new paths in it.

People running Xastir for the first time won't have to worry about
either of these scripts. The paths should be set up correctly for
them.

Another possibility is to rename your ~/.xastir/config/xastir.cnf
file, then start Xastir. Xastir should create a new config file with
the correct paths. You can then copy the relevant portions across to
the new file, or just set your preferences up again using Xastir
itself.
