It will time out after a certain number of tries.  If you don't want
it to keep trying, you can kill all outgoing messages in the
Messages menu.

You can also just let it pop up and then hide it or mostly hide it
behind the main window.

The reason it's popping up is that you're seeing your own message
come back from an internet server (or a digi if you're on RF), and
Xastir is popping it up because it involves a message either to or
from your station.

Expect all of this to change rather drastically in the future.  I
don't think we want to change this behavior in the current code,
'cuz the new code will probably be a complete re-write.
