Well, I could always put in a separate section for XP, and say "your
results may vary for other versions of Windows".

I didn't.  That was someone else that got it running, and I just
inserted what he wrote up on it.  My dealings with Cygwin were to
initially get it installed and write up the details, including most
of the optional map stuff.  Since then a few people have given me
snippets of things to add, but I haven't tried most of them myself.
My Cygwin test platform got re-imaged during that time also, so I
have to start over from scratch (which I started on last week, but
just got as far as the base Xastir install).
