Sounds like you don't have enough swap perhaps?  The radar image has
a lot of pixels, so it really taxes your system.  My machines
process it ok, but they really drag down the performance of the
machine every few minutes as it snags a new radar image.  That's the
main reason I don't regularly use that image.
