I contributed Portfiles to DarwinPorts for xastir and everything it needs,
if nothing else you can steal the patches some of them needed. (It uses
prefix=/opt/local)
I got the Deluo USB to serial adapter (from deluo.com, something like $10
or $20), and it uses a pl2303 driver, which I have around here somewhere.
Just works, when combined with gpsd.
