MEPIS is great. It was the only distro that would run out of the box on my
MINI-ITX system.

Your more right then you think. I got in a serious arguement with Bill D.
on the APRS-SIG about Linux and how hard it was to install. I claimed in
most cases it was easier to install then Windows 2000. He violently
disagreed with me. And the basis for it? He saw you and Jay trying to
compile XASTIR at the motel in Dayton this year... (not kidding!).

It is that very power that can scare people. I am really amazed at how far
Linux has come... it is just about ready for prime time, for a desktop
user that is.
