I suspect that most Linux users previously used some form of Windows. 
In my case, previous experience with NET and NOS for packet eased the
transition to the *nix world.

I admit that after I first looked into Linux in the pre-1.0 days, I
decided to wait until after I retired and had adequate time to deal with
the learning curve.
