How about something like this?

The tabs across the top default to All and Mine, other tabs would be configured by the user. All would show all messages to or from any user. Clicking on the Mine tab would filter so that only messages to or from the user are shown.

User defined tabs would filter so that only messages to or from the defined station. Wildcards would allow for pattern matching as well.

If there's room, I'd also like to see a timestamp with each message. UI-View handles this by popping up a text box by right clicking on the message.

The top window shows both incoming and outgoing messages. The bottom window is a text entry screen, which only holds messages being composed and pending messages. Once a message is sent, it shows up in the top window. When delivered or timed out, the message is removed from the pending window.

What do you think Andrew? What else would you like to see?
