This may be of some use to you. I'm not at all familiar with Linspire so 
you'll have to adjust to fit, but I've put together a 'step by step' 
guide to installing Xastir on Fedora Core 5. It even assumes you don't, 
yet, have a functional development environment.

No, it doesn't cover everything - but it'll get you 'on the air'.

I just went through and ensured the links were up to date and even 
corrected some spelling errors. I'm sure there're more.
