[Xastir] Xastir_tigerpoly.py - Email found in subject

Chris,

What I wrote was a perl script that reads the FIPS description file and uses it to generate a shell script for each state and all the counties in each state. I've sent all the shell scripts for each state.

The shell scripts download the files process them by county, then zips them up one state at a time, then deletes the original tigerline source files. It takes a lot less disk space than downloading them all at once and then processing them. It's not any faster though. You can just run the states that you want. The scripts themselves are pretty "brute force" but seem to work.

You'll need to set an environment variable TIGER_POLY_DIR to have the path of Xastir_tigerpoly.py and you need to make a working directory. Untar the scripts into the working directory and make a directory call 'states' . When each script is done, it will put a zip file into the 'states' directory.

No guarantees expressed or implied, your mileage may vary, yada yada.

If you want a change, let me know, but I'm in and out of town all this month, so my email answering will be a bit spotty.

Cheers.

Troy,

Is there any chance I can get the scripts from you. I can't seem to get the
core script working. Why re-invent the wheel...

Thanks,
Chris

All

A couple of weeks ago I wrote and tested all the scripts and offered to
process and serve the maps, but no one seemed to want to take me up on it.
Maybe you'll have more luck.

Hello all,

I downloaded the Tiger 2005se files, and I was going to write a wrapper and
use Xastir_tigerpoly.py to convert them. I ran into a problem. I have
installed gdal which supplies osr.py, but osr.py looks for _osr.py.
Where can I find this file? This is all on FC5.

Thanks & 73,
Chris (KK5XF)
