There seems to be a nice selection of up-to-date DRG's availiable in '.sid'
format for my area of the country. (
http://www.puc.state.oh.us/gis/topomaps.cfm )
There's a utility for decoding .sid files to GeoTiff format offered at -
http://www.lizardtech.com/download/dl_download.php?detail=geo_mrsiddecode&pl
atform=lin
and it seems to work nicely. The issue is the 80x expansion (!) that the
utility yields (my trial files were around 5-6 Mbytes as '.sid' and nearly
450 Mbytes as '.tif' images).
Does anyone just happen to be working on '.sid' support for xastir a the
moment? It would be nice to save disk space for other needs by keeping them
in compressed form...
