[Xastir] Lockups on a fresh system

It's a fresh install of Debian Etch using kernel image 2.6.18-6 and the current WM is Gnome version 2.14.3.6.  The system is mostly stock right off the install CD and the online repositories.  I've only removed applications that aren't needed on the machine which installed by default (games, OpenOffice, etc.).  Xastir was compiled from source obtained via CVS.

Everything else functions normally.  The WM doesn't stop running and I can manipulate other applications as if nothing's happening.  Xastir is just simply stuck doing something.
