[Xastir] Trouble Compiling (Mac OS X)

Background: my main Xastir machine is a Mac Mini (Intel). A bit over a
month ago it started getting erratic. My regular disk checks were
showing a lot of errors. So I tried to repair them. Things spiraled
out of control and I wound up having to get the hard drive replaced
(AppleCare=free fix). I recently got the machine back and have been
restoring things to normalcy. Previously I didn't backup (Time
Machine) the folders where Xastir and it's support files lay (I'm now
rectifying that). I use Fink. I don't use MacPorts. I have no interest
in changing.

I tried to install GraphicsMagic manually (not available in Fink), I
was unsuccessful. I couldn't get it to see libtiff even though it's
installed. So I installed ImageMagick using Fink. But when I compile
Xastir it says I have neither. So I can't view raster maps. So I
started Xastir anyway. But it wouldn't let me select any of the line
maps (auto select wouldn't work). I kept trying things and
recompiling. Eventually I got something working because now I can see
the line maps. But I'd still like to get the rasters working.

So I need some advice on (a) how to get other compiling efforts to see
the libraries that Fink is installing and (b) how to get Xastir to see
ImageMagick.
