[Xastir] D700 as a TEMPn-N digi with Xastir

I know that Kenwood D700 radios can act as fill-in digi's for
temporary operations. What I want to do is use a D700 as a TEMPn-N or
SARn-N digi while it's also connected to Xastir. Is this possible? I
would think that it would be, and that Xastir would function as normal
and the D700 TNC would handle the digipeating functions. Is that a
correct assumption?

Can I just add the commands listed here (http://aprs.org/TEMPn-N.html)
to tnc-startup.d700?
