[Xastir] ax.25

Hello I am trying to setup the ax.25 tnc kernel on Xastir. I havent gotten very far on the xastir wiki, I am stuck on the following step
 For Debian-based systems only: These get added into /etc/modules/aliases instead, then run /sbin/update-modules.


I have done so, the /sbin/update-modules  get fatal error. I have found modprobe.conf file form Ubuntu 9.10 is now modprobe.d

I am using HP laptop with AMD64, with xastir-1.9.9 (downloaded bleeding edge from xastir CVS)
