Right.  If you can use hyperterminal to talk to that port then that
port is NOT in kiss mode.  Kiss mode doesn't allow you to issue such
commands or get human-readable responses back (although the payload
part of a text packet is readable, the header is not).  It's a
machine-to-machine protocol.
