http://www.xastir.org/wiki/HowTo:Ubuntu_12.04-binary

New binaries (deb packages) were created this weekend for Xastir 2.01
for Debian 6 (a.k.a. Squeeze or "Stable") and Ubuntu 12.04. These
will install in the 32 bit version of the OS. They include the recent
tweak that re-enabled the OSM "Cycle" Topo Maps.

The Debian 6 version should also work in Mepis 11.0 and other Debian
Squeeze based flavors, but I have not tried it in anything but pure
Debian.

Lee - K5DAT

I have just been playing around with the new release of Mint Debian edition and found that there is a depandancy issue with Proj on these binaries from this web page
