[Xastir] GPS NMEA sentences decoded by Xastir

I asked Andrew, the author of  YAAC and he put that option in there.  It works for wired devices under Windows but Bluetooth in Windows stinks so I haven'tbeen able to use the program in that regard.  Ideally, it would be nice to have a small tablet to carry out in the field and not be encumbered with cablesconnected up to the device.
With YAAC, one can define an NMEA stream as one's primary position and a second stream coming in over another port and give it a name or callsign.In fact, the secondary NMEA stream can be monitored and digipeated if one desires.
I did get YAAC running under Linux on a tablet and B/T in Linux is handled better than MS and YAAC did work there but I'd like something I can "run around"with.  The Pocket Chip is kinda small for my tastes but it is Linux and does run Xastir.  Kurt KC9LDH

I've thought about trying to hack out a new xastir device type to
handle the NMEA trackers like the eggfinder.  The device configuration
would include a callsign that xastir would use for the station call,
plus all of the other serial port stuff. More or less what the perl
hack you're using now does, but actually built in.  maybe the
developers could comment on how sane that sounds.

as for my portable GSE, the Smartipi people came up with a cover that
encloses 35mm of space on the back of the pi touchscreen case, so I
can shoehorn in a battery and charge/boost//management circuit, a 12V
supply so I can feed power via a power pole, and (if I can figure out
the serial logistics) add a GPS and an xbee radio in there as well.  I
need to build faster that I feature creep, so I can actually complete
a design.  :|
