On Sun, Jul 22, 2018 at 08:55:07PM -0400, we recorded a bogon-computron collision of the <domwrx at gmail.com> flavor, containing:

You shouldn't run Xastir as root like this.  You should make sure that your
user is a member of the appropriate groups to provide access to serial ports,
and set the SUID bit on the Xastir binary if (and only if) you're using 
kernel AX.25 ports (sudo chmod u+s /usr/local/bin/xastir).

That is disconcerting.  This sounds like there's something wrong with the
GraphicsMagick install.  

Does "gm display" work with no error messages when you give it the name of an 
image file to display?
